Fish tank cabinets and stands

Having a dedicated stand or cabinet for your fish tank is an increasingly popular option. Purpose-built stands and spacious cupboards mean that your tank is properly supported. Plus you have the added bonus of a little additional space to store all the bits and bobs necessary to keep your fish happy.
Serious fish fans aren't satisfied with simply propping a fish tank on the nearest available surface; for safety and style, a special stand is the only way to go. And they have the added benefit of looking great, too!
Storage
Depending on your storage needs, you might choose a cabinet over a stand. Purpose-built cabinets feature cupboards with fitted shelving so that you can stash all of your food, cleaning items and other fishy paraphernalia. It's great to be able to pack all that stuff away and shut the doors, keeping your living space clean and tidy.
Most cabinets also come with custom holes cut out for electrical wires, so all of that can be concealed too.
Open or closed
Exploring the market, you'll find that there are two main types of fish tank cabinet: open and closed. The closable cupboards are great for covering up all of your storage but the open shelf design allows easy access to anything you might need while you're tending to your fish, so it's really a matter of preference.
Sizes
Depending on the size of your tank, there are plenty of dimensions to consider. You can choose from rectangular or cylindrical stands, depending on the space you have available - and your own inclination. Some people prefer simple stands that just do the job, whereas others like their fish tank stand to become a feature of the home.
Styles
A lot of the stands and cabinets come in a sleek black and grey finish but there are wooden models on the market too for fans of a more traditional style. You can opt for wood effects or 100% solid hardwood designs if you feel like pushing the boat out. Some stands come with just a base whereas others feature a top section that offers additional storage.
There are hundreds to choose from so you'll find it easy to snap up a stand that suits your home.
Quality and price
There's a vast range of quality available on the market. But if you're thinking about buying a new fish tank stand, it's worth investing to be sure you're getting a sturdy design that's going to offer reliable support.
Most metal stands are priced between £40-60 and you can expect a good level of quality for these prices. If you're looking for a wooden stand, you might end up spending upwards of £100, especially if you opt for real hardwood (which does look amazing!).
There are some fabulously ornate models available so if you've got the money, you can get a real feature piece for your home. It really depends on your budget and how much space you have available for the new unit - the larger units can command quite a lot of floor space.
